Install the SigmaTel Audio driver you downloaded in step 2.ĥ. From there, uninstall any SigmaTel Audio drivers, if they exist.Ĥ. Go into Control Panel, then Programs and Features (the renamed Add/Remove Programs). Or use this link to download the driver that was current on November 11, 2007:ģ.

Go to the Dell support page and download the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers for Vista. Go into Device manager, expand Modems, right-click the Conexant modem and select Disable.Ģ. I just know I’ve done this twice, and at the end I had sound.ġ. Note that it’s possible some steps are unnecessary (the modem steps may not even be needed). Hovering the mouse over it showed the message “No Audio Output Device is Installed.” The audio driver was showing as installed and working, but there was a speaker icon with an X in the system tray. Here’s how I got my sound to work on the Dell Latitude D620 and Vista. Still those driver suck as they do not work well at all with speakers connected to the docking station.ĮDIT AGAIN: I just got beta Sigmatel drivers from Dell Support, version 6.

I think however that creating the updated Vista DVD should be enough to reproduce the problem if you don't have a WDS to test with as I think the problem lies with integrating/slipstreaming the driver.ĮDIT: I might add that installing the Sigmatel driver from Microsoft Update Catalog gets the sound working, as does rolling back to the High Definition Audio driver. NOTE: Ususally we take the install.wim to a Windows Deployment Services server and deploy Vista from there. Now, install Vista as usual on a Latitude D620 or Latitude D430 and note that there is no sound but the sound card appears to be installed correctly. Then start vLite, point to the directory and finally choose to make an ISO and then a bootable DVD.

Download and install vLite from Then copy the full Vista DVD (all files) to a new folder on the hard drive and replace the install.wim with the new isntall.wim file from c:\vistawim. Run the following command to close the wim file:ĩ. Peimg.exe /inf=c:\drivers\dell\RXXX\wdm\STWRT.inf c:\vistatemp\WindowsĨ.

The run: (NOTE: make sure that the path corresponds to the path where the STWRT.INF file was unpacked.) Imagex /mountrw c:\vistawim\install.wim 1 c:\vistatempħ. Mount the install.wim by running the following command : Insert the Vista DVD and copy the file sources/install.wim to c:\vistawimĦ. Start Windows PE Tools Command Prompt with administrator rightsĤ. Then run the update to unpack the files, do not install the package.ģ. Download the latest Sigmatel audio driver from for you Latitude computer. Start with downloading and instatlling WAIK, Windows Automated Installation Kit, on a XP or Vista computer and make sure that you have a clean RTM Vista DVD close.Ģ. The problem seems to be when integrating the driver.ġ. You get sound if you install Vista with the RTM DVD and then apply the same driver.

But when you try to change the sound volume in the system tray (lower right corner) the message "No Audio Output Device is installed" appears, meaning the soundsystem in Vista cannot actually find the card altough it appears to be installed correctly. The problem is that by following the below instructions, the Sigmatel audio card in Latitude laptops appears in the Device Manager as installed.

I think you should push Dell on this one as well, provided are detailed repro steps: I first experienced it like seven months ago but thought it would be fixed in later drivers, guess I was wrong! I have an open issue with Dell regarding this and I have emailed IDT, which have taken over the Audio department from Sigmatel. I have this problem as well with at least Latitude D620 and D430 (probably all computers using the Sigmatel driver).
